Today I’m sharing 12 of my favourite non-toxic beauty brands that are worth trying.
Here’s the thing, though. There are so. many. amazing green/natural/organic beauty brands out there, and this list just grazes the surface. I highly recommend trying whatever you can get your hands on, but in the meantime, these are all personal favourites that I’ve used for quite some time. The brands I write about in this post are all clean, trustworthy, and most of all, fabulous.
Ecobrow— Bold, defined brows are right at the top of everybody’s beauty wish list right now. But gone are the days where you had to use chemical-packed products to get them, thanks to LA brand Ecobrow. Their defining wax is mineral-based, paraben free and conscious – not to mention super easy to use (so you don’t end up with crazy caterpillar brows). Also, the colour options are great (I use the shade Liz) and it stays put all day. Anastasia who?
Gressa— Oh, Gressa. I really love this brand because the founder, Svetlana, takes her time with her formulations so that when a product is released, it’s high impact and innovative. I am simply blown away by the star of the line - their Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation. This incredible serum foundation combines a face oil with mineral pigment to treat the skin while offering quite a bit of coverage! Broccoli seed oil provides the best dry, light-weight base that allows it to be semi-matte. My favourite trick with this one is to combine it with a few drops of your favourite face oil to customize the formula for your skin type, and to sheer out the coverage if you prefer something a bit lighter and dewy-er. The rest of the collection, from the Eye Tints, Lip Boosts, Lumière cheek colours, and highlighting/bronzing serums, do their job and do it beautifully.
Hynt Beauty— This luxe makeup line is one of the best all around lines I’ve come across for green beauty. Everything is A+ in terms of quality and performance and the one product that I’d recommend to everyone is the DUET Perfecting Concealer, followed closely by the NOCTURNE Mascara. This concealer is unbeatable for coverage. A tiny bit goes a very long way to provide flawless coverage of blemishes, redness, dark circles and more. You can even use it as a foundation if you like super full coverage all over! And the lip conditioner in the cap of the ARIA PURE Lipsticks is just genius.
Ilia Beauty— Thanks to its sleek packaging and on-trend products, ILIA is another standout brand in the organic beauty market. Founded in Canada in 2011, ILIA prides itself as a niche colour cosmetic line with an ethical-sustainable approach to beauty. Each of its products – ranging from the ever-popular Tinted Lip Conditioners to Illuminators and Multi-sticks – is filled with up to 85% bioactive certified organic ingredients. My first product from the range was actually one of their Tinted Lip Conditioner's in the shade Nobody's Baby! I still like it today, because it often proves to be the perfect lip colour for a no make-up make-up look. I also love their Lip Crayons. Easy to use, great and handy packaging and amazing colour payoff. You cannot go wrong with this brand when it comes to lip care.
Kjær Weis— Kjær Weis is an innovative cosmetics line created by Danish-born, New York-based makeup artist Kirsten Kjær Weis. They offer a full line of super-pigmented makeup that is to die for. Plus, their pretty mirrored (refillable!) compacts look cool chillin' out in your makeup bag. I am beyond obsessed with their cream foundation. It is super velvety and lightweight, so it can be built up to any level of coverage or sheered out when used over a face oil. The cream blush and highlighter are pretty amazing too!
Kosas— With only eight shades in it’s current lineup, it’s no wonder Kosas (pronounced Koh-sah-s) is known as the lipstick brand for minimalists. After tinkering with colour proportions for a year, founder Sheena Yaitanes perfected her range of eight fuss-free hues for all skin tones, consisting of reds, plums and rosy neutrals. Yup, you won’t find any beige-toned nudes here since it tends to wash the complexion out. Stardust is my daily nude, while I love Fringe for a slightly more dramatic touch. Rosewater, when smudged with a fingertip, gives the most beautiful bitten-lip hue imaginable.
Lily Lolo— If you've never heard of Lily Lolo, this cute British company has been making waves in the world of green beauty with their essential eyeshadow palettes, non-tacky lip glosses, and the star of the show – their mascara. It promises to lengthen, strengthen, and volumize, all without the presence of toxins, which is difficult for a natural mascara to achieve. They also have a beautiful selection of bronzers and some gorgeous brow products too!
Rituel De Fille— “Spellbinding natural colour,” the brand’s tagline reads, and that pretty much sums up Rituel de Fille (pronounced Ritu-elle d’Fee; translates to “ritual of the girl”) in a phrase. Founded by three sisters, the natural brand has a rather… unorthodox approach to green beauty. Bound by their love for all things magical and bewitching, the Ramos sisters have harnessed the powers of “potion-making” using a pure, minimal set of ingredients to create bold, trend-driven offerings. Their eyeshadows aka “eye soots” are incredibly pigmented and almost cream-like; their lipsticks, either “forbidden” or “enchanted” are sultry, moisturizing and mystically beautiful.
RMS Beauty— RMS was one of the first brands that I delved into when testing natural and organic make up. They have come a long way since my very first purchase, launching eyeshadow, nail polishes, palettes and more. Soon they will be releasing a range of lipsticks and to say that I am excited, is a huge understatement As far as cult beauty products go, RMS’s Living Luminizer and Un-Cover Up are forever staples in the bags of beauty editors everywhere. If you're new to RMS Beauty, this palette is a great introduction piece to the brand. It comes in two shades, Pop and Mod. There's also a Luminizer version too.
Tata Harper— Such iconic green packaging! Tata Harper is typically known for their skincare line, but I have loved trying out their cosmetics too! I especially like the adorable Lip & Cheek Tints- they are basically similar to those of RMS Beauty just in green glass and a little firmer in consistency. Pop one of these beauties in your purse for the easiest multipurpose makeup on the go. Also, the Tinted Lip Treatments are incredible. You'll always find one (or two) of these floating around in my purse.
Vapour Beauty— Vapour Organic Beauty is a line of high-performance, incredibly clean cosmetics. Their formulas boast high levels of organic and mineral-based ingredients, their packaging is sustainably sourced and they truly WORK. The Atmosphere Luminous Foundation is quite possibly my favourite foundation of all time. The sleek stick packaging makes it easy to carry with you for touch-ups, and you can apply it just with the warmth of the fingers or direct from the stick! The Solar Translucent Bronzer is also worth adding to your makeup bag.
W3LL People—Designed by an “elite makeup artist, cosmetic dermatologist and treehugging entrepreneur”, W3LL People is a wonderfully affordable and effective makeup line. Their plant-based formulas not only look good, but they also provide amazing benefits to your skin and they are free of nasty chemicals, fillers and preservatives. Many of their products also come in mini sizes, which is a great way to try them out! I especially like their Bio Correct Multi-Action Concealer (for concealing and brightening the under eye area) and the Bio Bronzer Powder (for a healthy glow that’s believable even in the dead of winter).
Do you guys swear by a brand worth mentioning? Any favs in your makeup arsenal?
