I’ve had a few people ask what my favourite hair products are- and that’s hard for me to choose, because I change up my hair routine quite frequently. So I thought I’d share with you what’s currently on my bathroom shelf. But first, a little background on my hair: I have super fine hair that can get oily at the roots but the ends stay normal/dry, so I look for products that will restore hydration to my ends without weighing the rest of my hair down, and gentle products that don't compromise my colour. I am happy to report that my current routine ticks all those boxes.
To start off with, my current shampoo/conditioner combo is the Innersense Color Awakening Hair Bath and Color Radiance Conditioner. I've only been testing these for a short time, but so far I'm especially impressed with the shampoo. It lathers up well, makes my hair super shiny and manageable, and allows me to go 3-4 days in between shampoos. It is a godsend. Plus, it smells amazing, thanks to Orange Blossom and Lotus Flower Oil. The Color Radiance Conditioner is the perfect compliment to the shampoo. I never used to be a conditioner-girl, but I’ve been really enjoying this one. A very, very small amount of this conditioner adds a light layer of hydration, makes the ends feels softer and makes detangling my hair when I get out of the shower a breeze. No yelps or watery eyes to be seen and once again, the scent is fabulous. The best thing about it, however, is that it rinses off well and does not weigh down my fine and straight hair. I've also been loving Innersense Sweet Spirit Leave In Conditioner for days when I want to skip conditioning my hair in the shower. It smells all kinds of amazing.
I follow each cleanse with some sort of leave-in product to add moisture and help control frizz. Right now I'm alternating between a couple of different products. I've been really enjoying this hair milk by John Masters Organics. It has a pleasant rose and apricot scent, and it provides slip that makes detangling easier. Who knew that the combination of roses (a scent that always comes across as dated to me) and apricots could be so fabulous? But it is, trust me. A more recent discovery of mine is the Intensely Nourishing Hair Oil by UMA Oils. This is hands-down the most nourishing and pure hair oil that I’ve ever tried. And not sort of nourishing or kind of nourishing, but super baby soft, ultra shine nourishing. It’s pure magic. I only ever need one drop (trust me, one drop really is enough), which I spread between my palms before applying it to the ends of my hair. The gorgeous earthy scent remains while providing heat protection and adding shine. I also really enjoy the Innate Life Hair Elixir. You can read all about their methods of sourcing on their website. Oh, and did I mention they’re a Canadian company?!
After applying some sort of leave-in product, I get any knots out of my hair with the Wet Brush. This is the only brush I use on a daily basis as it works through locks in the most pain-free way possible. I always let my hair air dry to minimize heat damage, and I use this Aquis Hair Wrap that I picked up at Winners. It has made the biggest difference in my hair - no matter what shampoo and conditioner I use, after using this towel my hair is soft and frizz-free and the drying time is cut in half. If you’re in the market for a high performing/high quality hair towel than this is the route to go. Highly recommend these!
To help with the extra days in-between washing, I've *finally* come to find dry shampoo I actually like. I have tried a variety of brands of dry shampoo throughout the years (both natural and not), but this one by One Love Organics is by far the best dry shampoo I have ever used. It’s completely absorbent, it leaves NO white cast in my medium brown hair (even when I use a lot of it), and it has the most lovely floral scent to it. I also like this one actually leaves my hair feeling clean with an extra pop of volume. The jar has been feeling rather light so I'm fairly certain I'll be needing a backup of this soon.
Once a week, I try to do a hair treatment/mask. I'm currently testing out The Innate Co. Hair Growth & Hydration Scalp Treatment* (not pictured). I will apply a pea sized amount on to dry or slightly damp hair, massage the scalp for 3-5 minutes and leave it on for a few hours to work its “magic” before washing it out. The cooling sensation feels very stimulating and relaxing. I usually need two shampoo applications to completely remove the product, but it is so worth it. You are left with some seriously silky, shiny, healthy feeling hair, it’s genius.
And that's it! That's all I use to keep my hair in check. It's really quite a simple selection of products, and they all work really well alongside each other. One other tip: I always, always listen to my scalp. Over time, I've gone from washing my hair every other day to washing twice to three times per week, as the natural oil production has slowly decreased. It's the best.
