For those who aren't familiar with the brand, May Lindstrom is a model turned self-proclaimed "beauty chef". May has created a line that is so intriguing yet simplistic in its ingredients and philosophy. I obsessed over getting some of the products for months and I can quite honestly say I haven't looked back. Each product is inspired, formulated, hand blended and lovingly filled from her private studio in micro-batches for ultimate freshness and efficacy. When I received this product in the mail, I took it out of the box looked at the bottom of the jar and it had been made that same month! WHAT?! I mean, you can't get much more fresh than that.
Lush. Velveteen. Cozy. I fell head over heels with the Honey Mud the moment I started using it. (Yes, it was instant!) The Honey Mud is an exquisite combination of raw honey, white halloysite clay and pure plant oils. Luxurious indeed! Essential oils of vanilla, cocoa and ylang-ylang give this product a relaxing, almost butterscotch- like scent. It's sweet scent and pudding like texture is incredibly addictive. As with all of May's creations, it comes housed in a violet miron glass jar (miron offers greater protection from UV light) with beautiful gold detailing. The best part about this 'cleansing silk' is that is both a cleanser and a masque all in one.
Those of you that are not used to cleansing with honey may be confused by the texture and concerned that it isn't effectively cleaning the skin. You can rest assure though, that unlike many traditional cleansers, honey doesn't strip the skin or upset the acid-mantle. Honey is a clarifying humectant thus leaving the skin moisturized and pores unclogged. As a cleanser, massage a pea-sized dollop into damp skin. Warm water transforms the texture into a milk, which rinses clean. I prefer to use it in the morning on clean skin as I find that it’s better at purifying the skin, rather than dissolving makeup. Initially I was using it solely as a cleanser but at $98 CAD for 100ml it's a little pricey to be using on a daily basis. Instead I use it whenever my skin feels raw and dehydrated.
As a mask, apply liberally to clean, dry skin and leave it to work its clarifying, skin-brightening magic! If I had to recommend a mud mask for people who hate mud masks, this would be it. The fact that you can put it on as a mask, leave it on for pretty much any length of time, and then add warm water to wash it off and get it to magically behave like a cleanser... it's just such an easy experience. The halloysite clay (one of the world’s finest clays) helps to gently exfoliate and decongest without leaving the skin feeling tight or overexposed. My absolute favourite way to use it is as a mask pre shower. It will give your face a layer of protection and hydration against the hot shower which can suck out every drop of moisture and damage your poor dry skin. I let it soak in with the steam and relax with the beautiful aromas. My skin always feels so amazing, soft and hydrated after. LOVE.
It can also be mixed with May Lindstrom's the Problem Solver, a powder masque made of antioxidant rich cacao, healing bamboo charcoal, soil nutrients, salts and warming spices. The combination is said to make the most decadent face masque everrr so I think its time to finally give the Problem Solver a try too!
Bottom Line: The Honey Mud is something I get excited about using every time I open the jar. There aren’t many skincare products I can say that about. May has just got everything right. For those who have yet to try May Lindstrom and want a luxurious skin care experience... I highly suggest checking out her line.
